At the age of 5, I had already discovered my calling.
"Mom," I looked up and said. "I want to be a pizza girl."
"A pizza girl?!" she said. "Why don't you want to be a lawyer?"
I thought the answer was pretty obvious, but apparently not to her. So I spent the next few minutes describing how awesome it would be to spend my days in a pizzeria, flipping dough in the air like a true pro.
Fast-forward more than two decades later and I still love pizza. Unfortunately, this girl from Brooklyn never learned how to make pizza -- or anything else for that matter.
Instead, I became a sports reporter and now I spend the little free time that I have watching The Food Network. I spend most of my life in press rooms and locker rooms, covering Major League baseball, the NFL, NBA and college hoops. Most of my friends are envious of the access that comes with a media credential. But more than playoff games or post-game interviews -- the thought of being able to cook Thanksgiving dinner is what makes me smile the most.
